More than 250 persons have been arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of continuing federal immigration enforcement actions, according to authority reports.

Expanding Federal Actions

Charlotte constitutes the latest American city to undergo heightened federal presence, following analogous operations in major metropolitan areas like Chicago and Los Angeles previously. Federal authorities have asserted that those arrested include persons with illegal activities and street gang participants.

Nonetheless, elected officials and inhabitants have actively protested the apprehensions, which federal authorities have termed "Operation Charlotte's Web". The state's chief executive has asserted that individuals are being singled out based on their racial background.

"We've witnessed masked, well-armed personnel in tactical uniforms driving plain vehicles, focusing on American residents based on their skin tone, practicing racial bias and detaining random people in community locations," declared the state governor. "This strategy is not enhancing our protection."

Official Stance

In a recently issued declaration, a federal representative stated that the operation has resulted in the arrest of "some of the most dangerous criminal unauthorized persons", including street gang participants.

Other individuals arrested had been found guilty for multiple violations, such as violence toward law enforcement personnel, operating vehicles under influence, larceny and tampering with government records, according to the agency.
